This is the first published story out of the work I did in Pakistan while on the International Reporting Project fellowship in September/October. I hope you enjoy it, find it interesting and possibly even illuminating. I'll let the video speak for itself and I welcome your comments and questions.
It has been quite a few weeks of work; going back and forth with the excellent Shayla Harris at the New York Times. It's satisfying to be finally sharing a piece of what I saw in Pakistan - albeit a small slice - with the rest of the world. But it's heartbreaking that it comes amidst even more bad news, with the recent slaying of the governor of the province of Punjab, Salman Taseer, a man who spoke out in support of moderate Islam, and against blasphemy laws. Declan Walsh wrote a remarkable article here that captures the implications of the killing.
In any case, I have a lot more material to start to dig through and need to search for financial support, but before I go into all that - please take a moment to watch this video and share your comments. I'm so grateful for all the help I received from the various individuals that I worked and consulted with; Adnan Malik, Kamal Khan, Hussain Dada, Badar Alam, Rohail Hyatt, Shahnawaz Khan, and many many others who helped with their time and advice. Thank you. Pakistan Zindabad!
